Shortly after the death of Magwair,Tanzania has lost Hip-hop icon Langa Kileo. He died last night at around 10 PM at Muhimbili Hospital where he had been rushed for treatment.
The father of the deceased claims that he was diagnosed with high Malaria and a spine related disease at Kairuki Hospital and was hence rushed to Muhimbili where he died.
Langa came into the spotlight when he took part in the 2004 Coca Cola Popstars star search and was part of the Tanzanian group ‘Wakilisha’ which won the competition but later split up to follow individual pursuits.
He fell into the drug-snare that seems to plague most artists globally but he eventually found his way back. He even went public with a documentation of his journey to recovery from drug abuse in a bid to sensitize the society on the danger associated with the stigma dealt to drug abusers. He had a foundation ‘Second Chance for African Addicts’ aimed at raising awareness on drug use and abuse.
Sources say that plans were underway for a construction of a well staffed and equipped rehabilitation centre in Tanzania.
